Boys Soccer Jamboree at North Bend High School Brings Coastal Teams Together

The 2025 Boys Soccer Jamboree at North Bend High School marked the start of the fall season with energy, excitement, and an opportunity for teams to test themselves against local competition. The preseason event gathered squads from Siuslaw, North Bend, Marshfield, and Brookings-Harbour High Schools, giving athletes valuable minutes on the pitch before the official season begins.

The jamboree serves as a tune-up for teams before the matches that matter begin. Every side participating will face each other once in a twenty-minute game. Teams were first able to practice on August 18th, and this is their first action against a real opponent.

The North Bend Bulldogs finished third in their league and earned a play-in berth for the state playoffs. Head coach Laine Phillips said this year’s squad blends “A great mixture of experience and youth with dynamic incoming freshmen” and will feature a more attack-minded style of play. “We are playing a much more attacking-focused formation this year,” he explained. Hosting the jamboree is a great way for the Bulldogs to put their training into practice and prepare for the upcoming season.

The jamboree also plays a role in addressing regional soccer concerns. With referee shortages still affecting soccer in Coos County, the event was structured with modified time slots to maximize official coverage. Southwestern Oregon Community College sophomore Skye Oyama has joined the ranks of high school officiating. He saw his first action on Wednesday: “The jamboree helped me prepare for my first year as a high school ref because it allowed me to get comfortable and be myself out there. This will help me going into the season because I won’t be nervous.”

North Bend’s first official match is scheduled for September 3rd, when they face Creswell. The Bulldogs’ mix of seasoned seniors and promising underclassmen makes them a team to watch as they push for one of the league’s automatic state playoff berths. If the attacking formation clicks and the defense holds steady, the Bulldogs could be in position to challenge for the league title and make a deeper postseason run than last year.
